This is a very nice little park in downtown El Paso. It’s a great place to sit and have lunch while exploring the city.

Some photos.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. My diaries are running about ten days behind where I actually am.

The park

Like all early Spanish and Mexican towns, El Paso was laid out with a central plaza

Lots of sidewalk

Desert plants

Some nice-looking flowers

The central fountain depicts Alligators. Why? Beats me—this is the middle of the desert and there are no Alligators within a few hundred miles.

This building was the Kress Department Store when it was built in 1938

There are a number of historical plaques here. This one commemorates the US Army that camped here during the Mexican-American War.

Another marker commemorates the local militia who served for the Confederacy in the Civil War

Nearby is a statue of Fray Garcia de San Francisco, who founded the city in 1659

The pigeons wanted part of my lunch
