Governor DeSantis should be known for Florida's middle aged death rate. [1]

From 1999 to 2020, the first year of COVID, this death rate increased by 9 in California while in Florida it increased by 106!
Florida has had Republican governors for the last twenty years, their current one, Ron DeSantis has formally announce his campaign for president. The totally unmentioned problem with Republican government at the state level is that it is associated with a much higher middle aged non-Hispanic white death rates. The above graph displays two sets of yearly death rates, one for these people in California, one of our most Democratic voting states, and second, Republican voting and DeSantis’s, Florida for the 21 years from 1999 to 2020.
First, a brief history showing the historical context of the difference in these two states populations death rates. Easily available data starts in 1968 when this group’s Florida death rate was 15.8% higher in than in California. Until 1992 Florida’s death rate declined more than Californias when it got to be only 3.2% higher. Since then, the trend in their difference has been the opposite direction, in 2019 Florida’s death rate, that 403 on the graph, was 150 points, or 59.3%, higher than California’s 253. And looking at the last two dots, showing COVID’s direct and indirect effecting in 2020, in Florida it went up 56 more deaths per 100,000 and in California it went up 42.
In 2020 16 states had higher death rates for this demographic group than Florida, only two of them voted Democratic.
An end note, I chose to look at the death rate of middle aged white males because they are more likely to lose their life because so many of them vote Republican.
