First the Capitol, Now the Treasury: Beware a Purportedly No-Fault Default (and So On) [1]

Talk about a double standard. When perpetrated by Stewart Rhodes, seditiously conspiring is quite the crime. But look. A major, mainstream political party, officially, in writing, calls J6 (the epitome/upshot of such conspiracy) “legitimate political discourse,” aka sedition-as-usual. And goes its merry, regressively taxing way.
In like vein for over four decades, the party of pork for polluters and tax-slashing for fat cats has blitzed the Treasury. Drowned us in red ink. Blamed wonky donkeys 24/7/365. And ceaselessly bombed the body politic.
Along with such red tide tyrants as Ronald ‘Star Wars’ Reagan, George ‘Who Do Voodoo’ Bush, George ‘WMD’ Bush, Dick “Deficits Don’t Matter, Reagan Proved That” Cheney, and Grover “Drown It In The Bathtub” Norquist (not to mention the ever-more-unhinged Donnie “Do A Default” Trump), they’ve pretty much memory-holed Bill Clinton’s SURPLUSES. (I can see media lapdogs panting to roll over and play dead for such puffed-up heffalumps. But can someone please tell me why Dems demur and decline to quite literally hold them to account?)
Not to belabor what should be obvious. But normalizing and legitimizing J6 bespeaks an undead, ongoing coup. So does tying our lives, fortunes, and almighty dollars to the tracks with the train in sight. (Not to mention hard-right recklessness bodes ill for the economy, stupid. In 2011, during the GOP’s last orgy of budget blamethrowing, stocks fell sharply. But of course, since tuskers fetishize Big Biz, that could NEVER be the fault of THE PARTY OF 13-FIGURE YEARLY DEFICITS, right?)
And they’re off! US Reps, that is. Apparently, for 10 days. By the time they return, our country’s full faith and credit, the world economy, and the lives of countless Americans may be toast.
That is to say, history. Repeating. (Lord. We made it through J6...only to wind up with THIS?)
Clearly, what goes around the Rotunda comes around. Don’t be shocked, shocked next year to find the hard right’s evildoers of the Ellipse/bad news bears of the budget pushing for an encore putsch. That is (sad to say), don’t be stunned if the fruits of decades of appeasement (and cowed silence) on the part of savvy scribes and decorous Dems turn out to smack strongly of civil war. (Assuming, of course, they don’t already.)
