The New York Times is reporting “White House and G.O.P. Strike Debt Limit Deal to Avert Default”. No details, other than that Biden’s and McCarthy’s negotiators have struck a deal in principle.
The details will come out later, and they aren’t gonna be good.
From what I can tell, Biden is trading a good chunk of what Democrats passed last year, in order to prevent Republicans from crashing the economy between now and November 2024 and thus doom both Biden and the rest of us. How big a chunk, we’ll just have to see.
The MAGA types will be livid about this deal. Possibly they’ll even sink it.
