CHAT-GPT - Does it have political opinions? [1]

I was working with Chat GPT when for some reason I began to wonder if it had political views. Now, the LLM (Large Language Model) often states that as an AI, it has no “opinion” on such things. But is that true? I decided to find out by asking Chat GPT to write me a rap song for each of the four main political parties of the UK: Tory (Conservatives), Labour (Socialist), Liberal Democrat, and Green. Later I asked for a song about the Monster Raving Loony Party. More on that, later.
I tried to make the request as neutral as possible by simply prompting: “Write me a rap song about the XXXX party”.
First, the Tory rap song. The party that’s been in power for the last 13 years. They’re not popular.
TORIES
Yo, let me tell you 'bout the Tories, a political crew,
They claim to represent the people, but is it true?
With their suits and ties, they speak with eloquence,
But behind closed doors, they protect grandiloquence.
They promise prosperity and economic growth,
For the working class, it's a parasitic growth,
Cutting welfare, squeezing the NHS tight,
Leaving the vulnerable in a desperate fight.
(Chorus)
Tory party, you claim to be the best,
But your policies put us all to the test,
From austerity to inequality,
It's time for change, we need a remedy.
In the interests of brevity I will include only part of the songs, but these parts are representative. I think you’ll agree that the Tories have a negative image.
LABOUR
Listen up, y'all, let me tell you 'bout Labour,
A party with a vision, where people come together,
Fighting for the workers, the marginalized, the poor,
Aiming for equality, knocking on the door.
They champion education, invest in our youth,
Building schools, empowering knowledge and truth,
They understand healthcare is a human right,
NHS protection, shining through the night.
(Chorus)
Labour party, standing tall and strong,
Fighting for justice, where we all belong,
From social welfare to a fair economy,
They're here for the people, that's their philosophy
- I think you’ll agree that Labour has a positive image.
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
Yeah, listen up, I got a story to tell,
'Bout the party that fights for equality so well,
Liberal Democrats, they're breaking the mold,
With their vision for a future that's bold.
They champion rights, for every woman and man,
Fighting for justice, you know they take a stand,
From healthcare to education, they won't compromise,
Putting people first, that's no surprise.
(Chorus)
Liberal Democrats, yeah, they're on the rise,
With their progressive ideas, reaching for the skies,
Equality and fairness, that's their creed,
Making sure everyone has what they need.
Quite a positive view, yes? And here’s Chat GPT’s view of the Green Party:
Yo, let me drop some knowledge 'bout the Green Party,
A movement focused on the planet, that's hearty.
They're all about sustainability and conservation,
Fightin' for a greener future, it's their dedication.
They tackle climate change, that's their number one mission,
Promoting renewable energy, a cleaner transition.
Reducing carbon emissions, they're on a mission to succeed,
Green Party's in the house, plantin' seeds of green creed.
(Chorus)
Green Party, standin' tall, protectin' the Earth,
Advocatin' for nature's worth, showin' us our true worth.
Sustainability, their philosophy, it's clear to see,
Green Party, the guardians of our planet's harmony.
Three positive opinions, one negative opinion. I tried discussing this with Chat GPT but it was adamant that it had no political views, so I am now pondering on this rap song data and wondering.
Later on I recalled the other “Party” in England, the Monster Raving Loony Party. I asked for a song about them (they are just a spoof party) and got this:
Yo, listen up, I got a tale to tell, 'Bout a party that's crazy, where chaos dwells. They call it Monster Raving Loony, no joke, With policies wilder than any smoke.
Their leader's a madman, a true eccentric, With a mind so twisted, it's quite electric. They dance in silly hats, they sing and shout, Their manifesto's wild, there's no doubt.
I’m wondering just how and when the politicians will begin using Chat GPT to convince us to vote for them. I guess we won’t have to wait long.
