Regular Good News
Electrek: Heat pump sales outpaced gas furnace sales in the US in 2022
Part of a bigger trend that saw global heat pump sales grow by 11%. According to analysis released today by the International Energy Agency (IEA), heat pump sales in Europe saw a record year, with sales growing by nearly 40%. And specifically, sales of air-to-water models in Europe that are compatible with typical radiators and underfloor heating systems jumped by almost 50%. Currently, heat pumps function as a main heating device in around 10% of buildings globally. That’s the equivalent of over 100 million households, or 1 in 10 homes. But in order to meet climate goals, heat pumps will have to meet nearly 20% of global heating needs in buildings by 2030. If installations continue at the rate of the last two years, then the world may almost be on track to reach the 2030 goal. The IEA says that global heat pump sales will need to expand by well over 15% per year this decade if the world is to achieve net zero by 2050, and that multistory apartment buildings and commercial spaces in particular should be prioritized.
The markets have spoken, and growth is accelerating in the normal way. How long has it been since I mentioned how much I love the exponential function and the related logistic function?
Near-exponential growth up to 50%, and then near-exponential tailing off to saturation
I'm A Loser (Remastered 2009)
Repellent, Rabid, Rogue Republicans Rushing Ruthlessly, Rapidly, Relentlessly, to Ruin
The losers are determined to lose on all of the hot button issues. They are the despair of their political consultants and advisers who want to talk about WINNING elections. But the candidates don’t care, because the Base don’t care, and will keep sending money, lots and lots of money. Billionaire funders are starting to care, and cut off big money for some of the losers.
We have solid majorities on

Cutting all social programs
Destroying the public schools
Monstrous tax cuts

Deficits and the debt
Your issue here
All of which make great campaign ads, and juice our GOTV.
They have vicious voter suppression and gerrymanders. They know how to rile up the base, but there is nobody left to reach out to, except in Cognitive Dissonance fever dreams.
They are passing more and more vicious laws, getting hauled into court, losing more than they win, firing up the public to pass initiatives, trying to think up more and more bogus moral panics, trying to out-Trump Trump...It can get exhausting, if you don’t make a determined effort to look at where we are winning now, and where our temporary losses will become campaign issues and ads for next year.
You can help them lose worse. Get louder on every issue, and on Wrong-Wing crime and hypocrisy. Get Woker. GOTV. Standard-issue retail politics.

x The term “addicted to losing” became popular after Team Trump created every excuse for all those losses in the midterms.
What you’re seeing from his influencers today reinforces it: They’re addicted to losing. Maybe because it’s easier to lose and complain than win and govern. — Ron DeSantis for President (@DeSantisPrez) May 24, 2023

x DeSantis is going with the dog-whistle strategy rather than directly making his argument that Trump is a loser and the party should move on. Making his case directly requires telling Republican voters that Trump lost and the 2020 election wasn't rigged.

Ohio’s gerrymandered leaders continue to ignore the will of the people by introducing draconian laws that trample on our basic freedoms, and now, eroding their ability to exercise their democratic rights.

Tim Scott's first campaign ad is an (unintentional) ode to Republican hypocrisy his first campaign ad was an indictment of Republicans and their character deficits — not that Scott intended it to be. x In a state with rampant gun violence, a push for permitless carry, and refusal to pass a hate crimes bill, Governor McMaster just said:
“I look forward to the day democrats are so rare we have to hunt them with dogs.”
What a horrifying dogwhistle at the @SCGOP convention. — Michael O’Brien, MD 🩺🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (@DrOBrienMD) May 20, 2023

Politico: Key Republican recruits hesitate to jump in if Trump is the nominee
Potential Republican candidates in swing states and districts are reluctant to throw hats into ring. “Some people have asked me, ‘Should I run next year?’ If you’re in a swing district, I said, ‘No,’” said former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), who lost her suburban district in 2018 during a Trump-fueled Democratic wave. “If he’s going to be the nominee, you are better to wait and run after he washes out. Because you won’t have a prayer of winning.”

Trump was in court in New York on Tuesday via Zoom, where the judge laid out the rules to his lawyers about revealing evidence, and asked them for assurances that they would explain the concept of Contempt of Court to their client. Nobody believes that he can take in the advanced legal idea of, you know, consequences. The trial is set for next March 25, slap bang in the middle of primary season. The I-DJT has been complaining that this is “very unfair”, and criminal Election Interference, while insulting the judge and her family and the prosecutors and all.
