The crooks are still divvying up the spoils of insurrection.
They may bicker. Then Cajole. Always they scheme, consumed by a mindless tooth-and-claw scramble for more than their unfair share of say. Power for power's sake. The people be damned.
More than one thousand citizens have been arrested, hundreds convicted for their revolting roles in the Jan. 6, 2021 deadly attack on the Capitol.
But justice is found wanting.
The very movers and shakers of in-your-Facebook sedition – who instigated and then subsequently downplayed that bloody, lethal assault at the Capitol building more than two years ago not only remain scot-free – but are comfortably seated in power, intent on calling the shots for all of us.
Is that the devil snickering?
Of the 147 Congress members who objected to the certification of Joe Biden as President, 130 remain in power — including key "stop the steal" provocateurs like Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Jim Jordon, Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar, (AR), Mo Brooks of (AL), and Andy Biggs (AR) to name just a few.
Where's the U.S. Department of Justice?
These pretend patriots, typically cloaked in contrived Christianity, are holding Americans hostage at muzzle point with their beloved AR-15 military grade mass killing machines – demanding all the goods, threatening to obliterate the American dream for millions if they don’t get their way.
"With guns in their hands and God on their side," to quote a Bob Dylan song, they can't lose.
The violence to democracy from the Republican inner sanctums of the United States’ legislative branch persists daily in plain sight. Less visually dramatic perhaps than a thousand brainwashed crazed Christo-fascist anarchists smashing windows and beating Capitol police officers who were defending the seat of government with their lives.
But these abject traitors to the Republic, puppet master puppets dressed in their dandy monkey suits and fancy furs answering to big money and still criminally promoting the “big lie” are exceedingly, unsettlingly more dangerous to the United States of America. And life itself.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his mongrel band of MAGA extremists and gutless moderates demand work requirements and cuts to Medicaid, social security, food security programs, childcare, veterans, and environmental protections, before they pay America’s debts – as Congress has done 78 times since 1960.
Who's the true “enemy of the people”?
They’re more than willing to default on America‘s loan obligations just days from now and send our nation spiraling downward into an “economic and financial catastrophe” as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned, obliterating millions of jobs.
Never mind the same “representatives” of the people voted to raise the debt ceiling three times barely batting an eye under Trump, while their leader ran up a tab like a drunk blowing his life savings at an Atlantic City casino, increasing the national debt by nearly $7.8 trillion – a record 39 percent in just four reckless years.
But hands off those handouts for their wealthy, corporate string pullers, Republicans insist. These white supremacists, who sound the alarm on the danger of the “woke,” hypocritically malign, provoke and threaten on impulse.
Their go to weapon: fear. Their mission: Demonize and destroy.
Vice President Henry Wallace's foreboding commentary on fascism published in the New York Times on April 9, 1944, cries out to be heard today:
"The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact,” wrote Wallace. “Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy . . . . They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution."
But you won’t hear such warnings from Fox News or News Max hacks, Tucker Carlson types who are the very propagandists Wallace warned of.
The number of right-wing talk radio shows that regurgitate fearmongering untruths and recruit brainwashed followers daily, has exploded in recent years on the strength of well-moneyed corporatist funders bent on spreading delusion – surely to the delight of the Trump’s, McCarthy’s, Greene’s, Gaetz's, Gosar's, Jordan's, Ted Cruz's, Ron Paul's and so on.
Anything goes. Sociopaths are welcome. Imposters, backstabbers, prolific alarmist liars and self-righteous grandstanders are not only free but encouraged to join the party of the exceedingly disingenuous. Fabrications designed to obscure, and gaslight know no low. Thoughtless snarky comebacks endear. Hate is cherished.
Why is the indicted, fraudulent George Santos, the embodiment of a social media troll, still serving as a representative of the people?
Autocracy has one clumsy foot in the door thanks to treasonous insiders who pay homage to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Manchurian Candidate Donald Trump before they offer an encouraging nod to President Joe Biden who is fighting for the people.
Really, these feigned defenders of democracy who duplicitously tout “law and order” and pose as “pro-life” are simply doing what their party has consistently have done for the past 40 years since President Ronald Reagan decried “big government” and swindled America with his “trickle-down economics” that from the get-go trickled out and left the people dry.
Only now, their greed and lust for absolute control driven by callous autocratic policy has been normalized, Trumpified if you will, in the flotsam and jetsam of the past eight years of hate-laced, disastrous demagoguery and unprecedented brazen behavior.
So many twisted declarations emanate from myriad scattered pockets of Republican control across the land. Ban books, not guns. Regulate people, not corporations. Take from the poor, give to the rich.
They pooh pooh insurrection and worship the almighty gun based on non-existent Second Amendment rights and stand idly by, offering empty “thoughts and prayers” while school children and scores of innocents needlessly, horribly die.
“Evangelical” is a now a dirty word. The faith is left with a black eye. Millions who embraced a lifetime grifter with all the characteristics of an anti-Christ, must come to terms with their role in exasperating the desperation of our present-day society and facilitating the work of the enemy.
A strong majority of Evangelicals failed to heed Jesus’ warning to his apostles in Matthew to “not be deceived” by “wolves in sheep’s clothing” and to be “as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves.“
Instead, they are falling prey to the likes of convicted felon and former Trump National Security Advisor, Gen. Mike Flynn, who lied to the FBI about his Russian connections.
Flynn has teamed up with NAR (New Apostolic Reformation) movement of false prophets determined to crown the citizenry over the head with an upside-down Bible and cram the word of God down the people’s throats.
What would their professed savior Jesus Christ say?
“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven,” Jesus warned in Matthew 4:20.
Something for the pharisaical, self-righteous tyrants to consider as they blindly beat the end days drum, as if trying to twist Jesus’ arm to hurry back soon.
These same white supremacist-obsessed Republications pose as “pro-life” – fiercely defending the imagined spec of an embryo that may produce a human life. But they are blind to the struggles of the visible flesh-and-blood mother and her newborn babe.
The United States, due to an enduring indifferent Conservative agenda, is the only major country that doesn't mandate paid maternity leave for new mothers. While Republicans increase pressure to ban abortions, the number of maternity deaths in the nation have soared in recent years.
Where are Congressional Conservative Christians’ “eyes to see” God’s kingdom as they abandon the "least of these" Jesus, in Matthew, commanded his followers to care for – or face damnation?
If this great experiment in Democracy was indeed founded on Christian values, as Conservatives doggedly insist, how can they snub the hungry, thirsty, poor, sick, and imprisoned to cater to the avarice of fat cats?
Time and again, these traitors prove that there is no honor among thieves. Just a common, grating greed for more. And more. A smothering indifference to decency, truth, and justice. The only rights they give a rat's tail about are their own.
The reality is that Jan. 6 never really ended. It wasn't just a one day and done deal. More than two years hence, with scores of election deniers and coup capitulators still holding office across the land, the insurrection is still evolving, metastasizing, destabilizing, and traumatizing.
The coup continues.
