What has happened to our beautiful country and people? [1]

I am a lifelong republican but from the Bush administration on I have found that my parry has drastically changed. I don't want to be clumped into that viscious double-talking group any longer. I call myself a centrist at this point and vote more independent and democratic now. I have always been a tree hugger, an animal lover, and a personal rights enthusiast and a spiritual person.

On abortion: I think it is a very personal issue which has no place in law or politics. It should be a matter for those who conceived the fetus, possibly the parents of those two, and the physicians who have been consulted on the matter. An unwanted child brought into this world will have to be cared for and loved - these things may not be available in many cases. Where will the child go for this care? Is the government going to care for and love him/her? Not if we keep cutting human services! Or if the mother dies in the process of gestation or birth because of carrying this child? What then? What if there is no other family to help or if the family doesn't want to help??? So.......?

On the religious aspect: is the religion based on loving and caring for others? Then violence should certainly not be part of the liturgy! Compassion and caring should be the order of the day. If someone doesn't like what is being said or done then we have a choice of talking it out or not associating with that person. Compromise is not a dirty word.

Lies: everyone does this at some time in their lives. Even if it is just to spare the feelings of someone. But to gain for oneself in stature or financially etc., that hurts others in the process - that's just not acceptable. If you can't achieve your goal by being forthright and honest with love and respect then perhaps your goal isn't something you should achieve.

Monopolies and usury: these used to be against the law. When someone - anyone - starts buying up all of a certain service type business, or commodity, or any stores etc., they also own the capability of holding the population and the government hostage for what is charged for this service, commodity, food item etc.

Usury should also be regulated again. Monthly, I have more money in fees (interest) go onto my charge cards than I put in there for legitimate purchases I have made. The lowest rate is 14.5% and that is for items only at that particular store. When I use it elsewhere (it is also a major credit card) the interest is 24.9% to 29.9%!!!!! This is not only outrageous - it is criminal! But what can just one person do about it when the big wigs want their multi-million dollar bonus checks? I'm sorry but - what can someone POSSIBLY do at a job that is worth the money some folks make? And who pays that salary? The peons who do the work and the folks who use the service or buy the products!!!

Immigration: except for the Indigenous people of the United States, we are ALL immigrants - at least our ancestors were. Our immigration system totally needs a complete overhaul. I was raised in California and am US citizen produced back 6 or so generations and in Indigenous generations I'm not sure but 4 generations back was pure Cherokee. We always had a large Hispanic population because California used to belong to Spain. People crossed the border at all different seasons to help us in our fields etc. No problems there. But now we have these huge corporate farms and machinery - so family farms are dying and farm animals are being grossly mistreated and cruelly dispatched. Gee - thank you progress. (Right!?!?!) I don't THINK SO!

When people need a place to go to be safe or to work - we had rules in place to accommodate this. Now we don't? What the heck happened? Our greed. That's what happened.

Well - I could go on for pages but I'm sure you get my point. Thanks. Hope I made some sense to some of you.
