I don’t know about elsewhere in the country, but Portland Public Schools has another three and a half weeks for this academic year.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I finally decided to post this. It’s a recipe from The Guardian for leek and mussel chowder.
A study of where ancient humans preferred to live.
Butterscotch pots and almond shortbread. I’m not sure what I think of the butterscotch pudding, but I could go for the shortbread.
Scotland’s place in ancient Roman civilization.
Star Wars as a Wes Anderson production. A trailer apparently. Puts me in mind of Hardware Wars (“You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll kiss three bucks goodbye.”)
Two beads discovered in what was the capital city of Assyria in the Bronze Age in 1914 have been found to be Baltic amber. This is opening up quite an investigation into ancient trade routes, apparently.
Ostriches. Dancing? Anybody else suddenly reminded of Fantasia?
8000 year old blueprints?
Peanut butter is a liquid?!

This past week I received several packages that were originally scheduled to be delivered next week. There are still a couple coming — I should have everything but the book pre-orders by Tuesday.
I signed up for Noom last Monday, and was absolutely inundated with emails. I canceled the next day. I don’t enjoy feeling pressured.
I’ve signed up at Chirp Books and got the Graphic Audio versions of the first five Innkeeper books (Ilona Andrews) for about $24.

My grandson spent a couple of days home sick this past week. He went to school on Thursday — which I then found out was the day his class was leaving for the overnight field trip to the coast. This wasn’t the first I’d heard of the field trip — just the first I’d heard about when it was scheduled. He said they were supposed to get back to the school around 3:00 on Friday, so I told him I would be there, probably in the usual spot. Come Friday, I’ve waited almost an hour and my granddaughter texts me — one of the mothers who chauffered the kids had just dropped him off at home.
I do not mind doing things for my family, but I don’t enjoy having plans rearranged without anybody letting me know.

The exercises I added last month on the advice of my chiropractor have been helping a lot. She is very pleased with my progress. As am I.
And there you have it. My excitements for the week.

Love you guys!
