Russia uses incendiary munitions to gain control of the remaining Ukrainian positions in the extreme western part of Bakhmut. But they will have gained nothing but a burned-out pile of rubble.

This armored vehicle doesn’t just blow up. It’s freakin’ obliterated.
x #Ukraine: In the vicinity of Avdiivka, #Donetsk Oblast, a Russian MT-LB loaded with AT mines was hit by the Ukrainian 110th Mechanized Brigade using 40x53mm HEDP grenades dropped from a drone, vaporising the vehicle. pic.twitter.com/RcL3fgVuM9 — 🇺🇦 Ukraine Weapons Tracker (@UAWeapons) May 19, 2023

The Stormer air defense system took a hit from a Russian Lancet but is still operational.
x #Ukraine: The damage to this Stormer HVM targeted by a Lancet loitering munition is now clear- it suffered fragmentation damage to the launcher assembly, but the HEAT jet hit at a very shallow angle, not penetrating the armor.
As claimed, it'll return to service after repairs.

Good question. It appears to be Russians (or maybe Chechens) demonstrating how to get your ass blown up by running in a pack through the open.

The article at the link in the tweet has some interesting charts quantifying Russia’s missile usage and what it likely has left.
x Great overview by @pavel_luzin on best guestimates for how long Russia can continue to do these massed strikes without impacting nuclear readiness. Rightly calls out that for all the conversation on microelectronics, engine production and staff key.

Russia has not only lost influence in the West, it is seeing its influence over the former Soviet republics in Central Asia slip toward China.
x China expands its zone of influence in Central Asia in the military and economic sphere
China has offered a military and economic alliance to the Central Asian republics of the former Soviet Union. On Friday, Xi Jinping met with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan,… pic.twitter.com/GvYqDKQqAc — NEXTA (@nexta_tv) May 19, 2023

Here’s my take on F-16s to Ukraine:
Yes, it is a complicated and it requires a large support infrastructure. But the support issue has been overcome with other weapons systems — Patriots, Leopards, etc. — and it can be solved for F-16s.
Yes, Russia has a formidable air defense system and some of those F-16s are likely to be lost. But F-16s can also be used as standoff launch platforms for air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.
The news that the US will support European nations training Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s is welcome news. If the Europeans want to go first and provide some of their F-16s, let them. Let those planes show how effective they are in fulfilling missions and avoiding air defenses.
Sending F-16s to Ukraine also silences the biggest remaining criticism of the West — that we are refusing to give Ukraine the weapons it needs to win.
x The year is 2023 and finally 🇺🇦Ukraine will receive different types of western planes including F-16 fighter jets.
We have to finish this once and for all.
Huge victory is coming

However, there are alternatives to the F-16 — the F-18 Hornet, for instance.
x If it's F-16s that's great! But training isn't forking over dozens of airframes. I have been pushing this for 14 months, there are good options. Hornets are one of them. The will has been the issue. From March of last year laying this all out:

x Heartbroken by the death of five members of the Belarusian Kastus Kalinouski Regiment @belwarriors fighting for 🇺🇦 in Bakhmut.
