No, I don’t trust him. But look at what he said Wednesday. If Hawley were President, he would be “tempted” to ignore the debt ceiling based on the 14th Amendment language”
Because I would just be like, ‘Listen, I’m not gonna let us default. So end of story. Y’all will do whatever you want to do.’ But I’m not necessarily giving him that advice. It’s against my interest.
If the debt ceiling does not get raised in the next couple of weeks—because McCarthy and his caucus are not satisfied with what Biden negotiates, or because Senate Dems rebel against a bad deal—that is the GOP talking point:
The United States defaulted on its debt for the first time ever because Biden is a weak President. It would never have happened with a strong Republican in charge.
