AR-15 rifles
I’m a new contributor, and I had an idea that’s simple but maybe hard to implement. Why don’t we hold assault weapon manufacturers liable for their use? Specifically, make the assault weapon manufacturers pay the medical bills of those their guns injure. And the funeral bills of those they kill. They should be liable because they market weapons of war, meant to kill humans (rather than hunting), directly to the U.S. gun-buying public.
The federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (“PLCAA”) of 2005 shields gun manufacturers from liability in most cases, but we can change the law(s) in wake of the mass shooting epidemic. Shouldn’t we at least try? If we can’t pass federal gun control laws, this may be a workable alternative.
