I don’t get it.
I see Rep Khanna on MSNBC urging DiFi to resign. I see speculation about Nancy Pelosi’s daughter’s role. I see debates about how progressive a replacement would be.
But it’s pretty clear if she resigns, Joe Biden will not be able to appoint any Judges until 2025.
Correct me if I’m wrong.
But I think LuJane is right in the current DiFi diary, where she comments:
Yes, [Rs] can block a replacement for her on the committee even if she resigns. Blame the rules that were set up at the beginning of the session. At this point, the only way to keep the Dem majority on the committee is to keep her there voting, even if she does not recall for what/whom she is voting. It’s a shame that the Republicans have forced this situation, but their only priority is power. Their leaders seem to have lost their humanity.
It’s terrible. It’s cruel. But the stakes are huge. It’s the shape of the judiciary for years to come.
And it’s not the fault of Pelosi the younger or any Dem (except in the past when they failed to adopt the rule to prevent this). It’s the fault of endlessly cruel Republicans forcing her to some back.
It’s a horrible but necessary situation and I don’t get the D calls for resignation.
