Hey there,

The kitty above is King Oliver the 9th, aka Tika (TEE-kuh) He is our familiar. lol I am here to introduce myself and say hello to you all.

I am Misty Dawn. I am running for House of Delegates 40 here in VA. I am a single mom who has worked her whole life overcoming and fighting to break generational poverty. No one asks to be born into poverty, or to be born a woman, or a person of color, or an LGBTQIA+ person. And if we are so lucky to be born of privilege it is our moral responsibility to help raise up and support and advocate for those who aren’t.

More about me, I am the first on one side of my family to graduate high school and college on the other. I went to Radford University and received a bachelor's in social work with an emphasis in child welfare. I have spent the last 20 years working in a variety of direct care positions with a variety of individuals across southwest Virginia. I have used skills I learned from overcoming my rough childhood in my practice with those I serve as well as learning more along the way. Some fun little tidbits I learned growing up; I can skin a deer, grow my own garden and even preserve the food. I can sew and have learned so many skills from my family on how to survive.

I know firsthand how hard it is to pull oneself up by the bootstraps time and time again. When I found out that my district had no democratic candidate running against the republican incumbent I could not idlily sit by while FASCISM takes root in Virginia, especially when the governor of Virginia is coming for my personal liberties.

As a new candidate I have faced some interesting hoops and speedbumps just to get my name on the ballot. Let’s face the truth, that our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves knowing we aren't doing the work to raise leaders and public servants to run for office to represent the people.

I know I am not everyone’s cup of tea or shot of whiskey, I am water though. Whatever your filters or additives are will determine how I taste to your political pallet.

I will tell you this, I am here for the people, the poor, the working class, the people who every day wake up in a system that has been designed against them all while the rich continue to get rich.

I am here to ring the bell of Democracy.

We must do better together for the betterment of all the people. We cannot cower in fear when looking at the guns and ammo of fear mongering people who feel that control and violence is the way to go. We must run for office!

It is a matter of time before people catch on to the game and we as democrats need to be on the right side of history and begin to make policy for the people not idlily sit by and let laws pass against the poor and working class. What side will you be on? Will you join me? I am new and make no apologies about that, except I apologize to myself for believing the lies and no's from those who didn't support me in my dreams that started when I was in 5th grade.

I also am working in Virginia to help everyone have an option on the ballot come November, by networking and helping others run in other unopposed districts. We all need representation and a choice, again, something I think our Founding Fathers would be rolling in their graves over.
