Six Flags and Mohammed bin Salman - A Match Made in Hell [1]

This will be short. A couple of years or so back there was an announcement that Six Flags was planning to build an amusement park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They also announced that’d it’d have the longest, tallest, and faster roller coaster in the world among it’s rides.

At the time I think a lot of coaster enthusiasts thought building a coaster like that was not gonna happen. It’s one thing to have the money and resources to build such a beast of a ride but maintaining that beast is going to be one helluva maintenance nightmare. I kinda follow this stuff.

All that being said I couldn’t believe at the time that Six Flags was actually going through with the project. The money. The desert heat. The *cough* *cough*, um, human rights abuses. Oh, and a journalist chopped into pieces because he dared challenge the “(k)ing”. (Just found out today that Lindsay Graham has officially forgiven him.).

Guess no one really cares. Six Flags, one of the largest amusement park chains in the world is getting in bed with a murderous regime. Ho hum. They are based in Arlington, TX so who knows. I think it’s just weird that this seems to be a non-story save the press releases talking about how great the park is gonna be. Anyway, I, for one, will never again travel to Saudi Arabia (have been there for work) and have pretty much decided that Six Flags is no longer on the destination list.
