Product placement

In what was once a horse paddock and then a sheep paddock I’ve planted an assortment of native prairie grass and herbaceous plant seeds. This land was Tallgrass Prairie about 200 years ago, then it became a ranch for about 150 years before being subdivided into 10 and 20 acre parcels. We bought 20 acres as our forever home. We’re trying to repair as much of the damage caused by ranching as possible, but it is a tremendous challenge.

We can’t do a true prairie restoration because we can’t run bison or set fire to the grass, but we can have a little patch and mow it down occasionally. The Tallgrass Prairie was once one of the most biologically diverse habitats on Earth, and an important carbon sink. Today less than 4% remains.
