So ya, Trump and Barr appointed him so you know it’s BS. But there is a lot of deliberate misinformation right now about re-writing the history of the 2016 election and the MAGAs are predictably coming after the chum in the water.

This WaPo article sets out a clear explanation of the main issues and facts that Russia tried to influence the election, the Trump campaigned welcomed it, and the difficulties prosecuting everyone over it while even the ones that did get convicted were pardoned anyway.

(ICA) “We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the U.S. presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary [Hillary] Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump.”- Intelligence Community Assessment

Trump immediately rejected that conclusion, but both the Mueller report and the Senate (controlled by GOP) investigation affirmed it. Mueller concluded that Russian government actors successfully hacked into computers and obtained emails from people associated with the Clinton campaign and Democratic Party organizations, and then publicly disseminated those materials through various intermediaries, including WikiLeaks, to sow discord in the United States, hurt Clinton and help Trump. Putin personally ordered the hack, the Senate report said , and “Moscow’s intent was to harm the Clinton Campaign, tarnish an expected Clinton presidential administration, help the Trump Campaign after Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee, and undermine the U.S. democratic process.” (my emphasis + note)

These conclusions are not in dispute. The Durham report references the ICA in a footnote (the main conclusions of the entire package of investigations are a footnote here) and acknowledges the previous three reports for “the contributions they have made to our understanding of Russian election interference efforts.” (my emphasis + note)

I recommend reading the entire article to see the little pieces of BS Durham latches onto for headlines.
