What was the angle here?

Again, it’s hard to make this stuff up. The Washington Post brings us the story of an outraged mother and her brave child who clicked the record button in Geometry class when her teacher went on a rant using and excusing the n-word. He used it twice in the 55 second video. When he saw her recording, he sent her to the office, and she was suspended by the school for breaking the rules.

Jonathan Edwards at WP does a great job of telling this story:

www.washingtonpost.com/... Mary Walton thought her teacher repeatedly saying a racist slur in class last week was wrong, so the 15-year-old sophomore at Glendale High School in Springfield, Mo., pulled out her phone and started filming, the student’s lawyer said. She recorded him saying the n-word twice before he appeared to notice what she was doing. “Put your phone away,” he told her, according to video reviewed by The Washington Post. “No,” Mary said. “Then go to the office,” he responded.

Edwards goes on to tell us that the teacher was removed in the days that followed, which is, of course, appropriate, but hmmm.

The school says they are “confident that the district appropriately and promptly handled all matters related to what occurred at Glendale,” in an email to parents. “We want our schools to be safe and welcoming learning environments. When students have concerns, they should follow the appropriate steps for reporting.”

Really?

The student’s lawyer, Natalie Hull, asks this question:

“Language can be harmful, and Mary captured proof of her teacher, a person who is supposed to protect children, harming them through his use of a racial slur,” she said in a news release. “If he had been hitting a student — or worse — would the school have reacted the same?”

Here’s the video and his sick excuses: Never mind. It made me sick to listen to it. It’s on Twitter if you want to hear what those kids had to put up with.

We can’t teach Black History but this shit is going on? omg. VOTE people. VOTE!
