Welcome to the New Day Cafe! This is an open thread.
Sunday was Dylan Thomas Day, a day to celebrate the Welsh poet. Dylan Thomas Day is held on May 14, because that day is the anniversary that he first read his poem “Under the Milkwood” to a live audience, as it happens in New York City. This year is the 70th anniversary of that day.
Thomas died later that year at the tragically young age of 39. Despite that, he became a towering cultural figure. His face is on the cover of “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, and Robert Zimmerman took the name Dylan after Thomas.
His birthplace is now a museum, restaurant, and hotel: www.dylanthomasbirthplace.com
