GOP's racist fearmongering fails again as Title 42's end doesn't spur border migrant surge [1]

Right-wing bigots trumpeted their deceitful narrative of fear and chaos even as a harsh Trump-era border policy ended with a whimper, not a bang.
Out-of-status migrant crossings at the southern border declined when Trump’s Title 42 expulsion mandate ended on Friday, May 12. Republicans had bolstered their racist “open border” lies with hateful predictions of a migrant surge.
“US Border Patrol has experienced a 50% drop in the number of encounters versus what we were experiencing earlier in the week before Title 42 ended,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.
On Friday, border patrol officers detained 6,300 migrants and about 4,200 on Saturday, down from more than 10,000 daily under Trump’s Title 42 policy.
The GOP touts Trump’s cruel, ineffective Title 42 mandate, along with other stunts including his shambolic, rickety wall, as barricades to a flood of migrants. In fact, those hateful policies failed:

Corporate media outlets that reported on the non-event embraced a false equivalence between GOP racism and Democrats’ attempts to craft humane policies:
Border policy, and immigration law in general, remains a quagmire of conflicting goals and politically fraught agendas. But GOP messaging consistently elevates partisan bigotry above humanitarian goals.
“The majority of [the Republican] party delights at chaos at the border,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press. “You saw some of my colleagues … rushed down to the border to take smiling photographs with the Border Patrol, essentially celebrating the fact that [they expected] chaos because they believe that there’s political gain to be had,” Murphy added.
Meanwhile, along Texas’ Rio Grande valley, agents apprehended 1,133 migrants, a 66% decrease compared with the highest level last year, 3,300, Border Patrol agent Gloria Chavez said.
