Republicans just killed the growth of the 3rd most populated state in the U.S.
Under the wide-ranging changes in the bill, Florida is set to undergo a statewide review of college courses and programs for traces of lessons that assert “systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege” are ingrained in American society. It also spurs officials to reconsider what level courses that broach those subjects or “distort significant historical events” should be available to students and could ultimately lead to the “removal, alignment, realignment, or addition” of courses. FLORIDA Florida’s ban on DEI spending becomes official as DeSantis enacts college reforms “Florida is getting out of that game,” Ron DeSantis said during a bill signing at New College of Florida in Sarasota. “If you want to do things like gender ideology, go to Berkeley — go to some of these other places.” By ANDREW ATTERBURY 05/15/2023 01:13 PM EDT

Academic freedom in Florida died today; once the colleges die, the state is destined to go back to the Seminoles and alligators. A 100-Year experiment in social uplift will have failed. Disney will either leave, or will build a new park somewhere north of Florida, then eventually close WDW.
Universities across the country and around the world will pick Florida clean of its top professors, and soon a Florida college degree will be worth less than—than swampland in Florida!
I know that I’m sitting in my cozy perch in progressive and advanced California, looking down on the Florida savages, but I don’t see any alternative for Florida, if the Court don’t rescue higher education in the state.
The best way to save Florida, or the part that matters, would be to carve off its panhandle and northern regions into a new state. Then Miami, Orlando, and Tampa would not be out-voted. But realistically, that won’t happen, because the people that would want to save Florida will move away instead.
Let’s start looking forward to the 2030 Census when — if the Republicans don’t steal the results again — California will gain back the seat in Congress she lost in 2020, and maybe grow it’s delegation beyond the current 52 members. Other western states, like Arizona and Utah, will flip decisively Blue, and then the Democrats will have a lock on the House and Senate, as well as the Presidency. The 2030s will be the new Era of Good Feeling, just like the 1820s, when the Democrats held 80% of the seats in Congress.
