HUD rules were written in the early 20th century and have not been adapted to fit with today’s standards of civil rights. These rules are based on antiquated notions of morality and often target those who are most vulnerable: the poor, minorities, disabled, and elderly. This lack of adaptation has resulted in significant negative consequences for these groups, particularly when it comes to housing. For example, HUD bans smoking cannabis within its housing units, forcing the disabled and elderly to consume a natural medicine in public – something that is–in many cases–uncomfortable or even dangerous due to stigma.
It is important to recognize that government regulations do not always keep up with societal changes; therefore, it's essential that we continue to reform old government rules and regulations like those from HUD. This means updating laws that are out of date with current standards, such as cannabis rules, to ensure civil rights and equality for all citizens. Taking steps to revise archaic laws of the past, can create a more equitable society where everyone has access to safe housing.
The goal of reform should be two-fold: allowing people to live in dignity while also providing them with an environment conducive to health and safety. Reforming outdated laws – especially related to cannabis use – is one way to help achieve this goal. It's time for us to make sure our government policies reflect today's reality so that all individuals have the same rights regardless of their background or circumstance. Only then can we truly say that we are living in a society where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive?
. . By taking the initiative and reforming government rules, we can create a system that is more equitable for all citizens. We must continue to recognize and update laws that do not reflect current standards of civil rights and equality, while also striving to provide safe housing to those who need it the most. Doing so will create better living conditions for all and ensure that everyone has the same opportunities regardless of their background or circumstance. With this in mind, let us work together towards a brighter future by creating reforms based on today's standards – one step at a time!
