Diane (Diane Keaton) reads Fifty Shades of Grey in the 2018 movie Book Club.

We understand that the coronavirus emergency being over doesn’t mean coronavirus is over altogether, it’s still around and it’s still a danger. But we also understand that people want to get back to movie theaters and other activities they used to enjoy regularly before the pandemic.

Whether you want to go back to movie theaters or prefer to stream from home, there are plenty of new movies to choose from, some of which are quite relevant to Daily Kos and which I think should have reviews here on Daily Kos.

Here’s some information about movies coming out today. If you write a review about one of these, or any others, please send a message to Movie Review Group so we can reblog it.

Air — Based on the true story of the origin of the Air Jordan brand. Directed by Ben Affleck, starring Matt Damon. PrimeVideo only.

BlackBerry — Based on the true story of the origin of the BlackBerry smartphone. Limited release.

Black Knight — Though lacking water, the air in the world of Mad Max: Fury Road looks pretty clean. What about a dystopian future with very polluted air? That’s where Black Knight is set. Netflix only.

Book Club: The Next Chapter — I wouldn’t have guessed we’d get a sequel to the charming 2018 movie (I wrote a review back then), though I did think Eighty for Brady might be a spiritual successor.

There’s no book selection in Book Club: The Next Chapter, as far as I can tell from the trailer, though the book selection in the first one was kind of incidental to the story anyway.

If you saw the first one, you probably care about the main characters and would like to see what’s next for them. If you didn’t see the first movie, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble understanding what’s going on in this one (though you can see the first one on Paramount+ and it’s also on home video).

I definitely plan to see this one but I’m not sure if I’ll write a review.

Carl Jackson’s LAX 2 Paris — This romance drama is a sequel, I know next to nothing about the original. Limited release.

Crater — A young man raised on the Moon explores a strange crater before leaving to go to his father's funeral on a planet far away. Disney+ only.

The Curse of Wolf Mountain — Horror movie. Streaming since Tuesday.

Fool’s Paradise — One of Ray Liotta’s last movies. A publicist discovers the spitting image of an eccentric actor in a man recently discharged from a mental hospital. Limited release.

Hypnotic — Ben Affleck is a cop investigating his missing daughter when he comes across a secret government program known as “hypnotics.”

Maybe like Tenet, but easier to understand.

L'immensità — Penélope Cruz stars in this 1970s period piece about a family who move to Rome. Limited release.

It Ain’t Over — Documentary about Yogi Berra. New York and Los Angeles only.

Knights of the Zodiac — An ordinary street fighter unwittingly discovers he has mystical powers.

Monica — Drama about a woman coming home after a long absence. Limited release, also on Apple TV+.

The Mother — A woman assassin who gave up her daughter years ago is on the run. Netflix only.

Rally Road Racer — Animated movie about a race car driver competing against a seemingly invincible champion. Limited release.

The Starling Girl — Coming of age movie set in rural Kentucky about a teenage girl who worries that her love of dancing in a church group is sinful.

Limited release. Should definitely have a Daily Kos review.

STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie — Documentary about Michael J. Fox. Apple TV+ only.

The Tutor — A tutor for the spoiled brats of the wealthy thinks he has it made, but when a student at a secluded waterfront estate takes an excessive interest in him, it threatens to unravel his life completely. Streaming since Tuesday.

Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West — This is a very important documentary about wild horses in the American west, and very relevant to Daily Kos, as you’ll see in the trailer.

x YouTube Video

Limited release. Also be sure to visit the Wild Beauty Foundation website.
