Everywhere you look, there are climate disinfluencers profiting off of spreading climate disinformation online. Not only that, but the fossil fuel industry pays some of the biggest and most prestigious public relations (PR) firms in the world to construct complex PR campaigns in order to obstruct climate action.

This disinformation has many harmful consequences : People who are exposed to these false claims might become unsure about climate change , and they could also get confused about climate policies, which hurts both people and the planet.

For example, if you’re an average person caught in the daily grind of trying to make a living while facing frantic news cycles filled to the brim with right-wing climate disinfo , you might not be aware that last August, Congress passed a landmark climate bill that not only helps reduce emissions by investing in green energy but also provides tangible benefits for homeowners, businesses, and even farmers .

Sure, the climate bill isn’t perfect . However, in the face of constant attacks against renewable energy and climate policy , pro-climate PR is a crucial part of rallying people around what the United Nations has rightly called “ the defining issue of our time .”

Just this week, The Wall Street Journal ran a piece framing wind energy projects as bad for rural communities when that couldn’t be further from the truth . Fossil fools love to tout all the real or imagined downsides of clean energy that they can possibly think of, and we desperately need organized climate advocates fighting back against the fossil-fueled lies and spreading the facts about climate change and climate policy.
