I am honestly trying to cut back my stories about my friends in Ghana to no more than one a week (less if I can manage it) but things happen there so fast, and for those who want to keep up with what is happening I feel I have to keep them posted. So my apologies if these stories are becoming tedious.

John is my friend in Ghana who works to care for others who come to his door in an emergency in desperate need of help. He is a licensed evangelist but his ministry is not to preach but rather to help others.

Over the winter we helped Zenabu and her husband Haddi through a very difficult and dangerous pregnancy. More than once Zenabu was in the hospital in great pain and in danger for her life, but on January 31st her baby was born safely and well. It was a great joy for all of us. In the naming ceremony they named her Vicky.

The baby, has not really been well and a week or so ago we helped them take her in to a doctor, who treated her for infant reflux and some other things. Her navel did not heal after birth and she has been in great pain.

This morning I woke to a message from John that Zenabu and the baby were in the hospital. The little girl’s navel was bleeding badly and she was screaming. My understanding is that the doctors sealed the navel (I am not sure how) and she is now okay. John asked for money to pay the bill so they could go home so I sent what was needed and they are on their way home.

Haddi and Zenabu are very poor and we are having some problems getting them food and the basic things they need with a newborn baby in the house. This is a continuing worry for me. I am sure some of the baby’s problems are from inadequate diet. She is not yet even four months old.

The other news of the day is Anabel, the four year old girl who was abandoned by her mentally ill mother. We have been caring for her for some months now. She is in a child care center for babies and very young children whose parents cannot care for them.

Anabel is doing well and looks much better than when John first found her abandoned. The matron has suggested that it is time to start thinking of getting her into school so we will be looking into that as we can.

In the meantime the school has asked for money for her fees and especially food. So this is the other chore that we must take care of today.

John wants to take her on an outing to the mall (I assume a shopping center; I am not quite sure what they call a mall there) and to the beach and to KFC, which seems to be big there. I think this would be great for her and for John, who truly enjoys the company of children, but it will have to wait.

John himself has been ill and very weak from bleeding from ulcers (I think). He got medicine only yesterday and hopefully is doing better.

For now everyone is hanging on but it has been a stressful morning.

God bless.
