NY court curbs Trump's online rabble-rousing, blocking deadly extremist agitprop ploy [1]

New York State Judge Juan Merchan has blocked Donald Trump from using social media to incite violence against jurors, prosecutors, witnesses or others in one of the criminal trials the former President faces.
Merchan’s ruling is important because it stymies a lethal incendiary tactic Trump and other rightists use: exposing ordinary citizens to attacks from lone-wolf gunmen.
It’s important to note that the court ruling is not a gag order, as Trump’s minions claim.
Rather, the protective order specifies certain “Limited Dissemination Materials,” which Trump is forbidden to “copy, photograph, transcribe, or otherwise independently possess.”
Crucially, Marchan’s order specifically bars Trump from broadcasting the materials via “any news or social media platforms, including, but not limited, to Truth Social, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat, or YouTube” without the court’s permission.
Prosecutors sought the order because Trump’s pledge of "death and destruction" against District Attorney Alvin Bragg already has prompted bomb threats against the court house and intimidation of others. Bragg also has received an envelope containing white powder.
“Defendant Donald J. Trump has a longstanding and perhaps singular history of attacking witnesses, investigators, prosecutors, trial jurors, grand jurors, judges, and others involved in legal proceedings against him, putting those individuals and their families at considerable safety risk," prosecutors told the court,
Today’s court action highlights the fact that civil society can and will protect itself from feckless nihilists who foment chaos as a business strategy.
Rupert Murdoch, Tucker Carlson, and many of their imitators have parlayed their bad-faith invocations of free speech rights into morbid wealth.
Those grandees of stochastic terrorism have smugly surveyed the wreckage of society’s guardrails they wrought.
Carlson and other cowardly troublemakers often veil their threats with a deceitful “I’m only asking questions” trope.
The New York court’s carefully-crafted protective order shrewdly foils Defendant Trump’s thuggish tactic.
It simultaneously protects the twice-impeached malefactor’s right to a fair criminal trial while shielding court employees and the public from attacks.
It’s designed to hold up against challenges in appellate courts.
