Bigots in Llano, Texas yanked this book from county libraries, until a federal judge in Austin ordered its return to the shelves. I sent this and other banned books to a local thrift store.
Conservatives distract voters from their deadly inaction on gun violence, their unpopular and harmful forced-birth policies, their dangerous opposition to the green transition, and other extreme policies by attacking LGBTQA+ children, youths, and adults.
Distributing accurate information about healthy sexual behavior, as well as truthful histories about race relations in this country, counteracts the hate, fear, and violence the extremists promote.
We can reach citizens in lower-income neighborhoods and communities of color by distributing low-cost books via thrift stores.
This method can work even in jurisdictions where book bans now are in force targeted at schools and libraries.
In April, 2022, seven Llano County residents sued county officials, claiming their First and 14th Amendment rights were violated when books with LGBTQ+ and race-related themes were removed from circulation because some people deemed them inappropriate.
In March, 2023, US District Judge Robert Pitman in Austin ruled that Llano county commissioners violated the constitution by the books. He ordered the county to end the “literary witch hunt,” and put these books back in circulation, including stocking them in the libraries.
In early April, 2023, I ordered some used paperback books from an online bookstore called SecondSale.
I had them shipped to a store in Llano County, Texas called The Bessemer Book & Resale Store.
I agreed with the store representative via text that they could sell them for $1 each and keep the money.
This is the kind of uppity behavior Gov.Tony Abbott, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Gov. Ron DeSantis have warned you about.
