You want to negotiate, OK! First, your poorly thought-out idea of making the middle class and the poor pay for the tax cuts and debts of the Trump administration is a non-starter for its fundamental unfairness, so that BS is off the table.
Since your agenda doesn’t give us time to do a proper analysis, we will use simple logic to reduce the budget deficit.
First, the budget deficit is the result of revenue raised and expenses incurred by the government. So, to be fair and objective, reducing the deficit by a dollar, means we need to raise revenue by 50 cents and reduce expenses by 50 cents. Do you grasp that simple concept of fairness?
In dealing with the revenue side, we need to recognize that wealthy individuals and corporations avoid paying taxes by using loopholes in the tax code, so, to correct the problem, we need to eliminate the loopholes. I will ask the IRS to identify the ones most used so Congress can pass legislation for their elimination. That is your job and, if you do it properly, it should take care of raising revenue.
On the expense side, using our time-constrained analysis, there are four major groups to share in the cuts. The biggest is defense so let's plan on 25 cents from that budget for each dollar. In reality, those programs that you wanted to take 100% from, along with other monies spent within the Executive Branch each get 10 cents on the dollar. That leaves 5 cents and guess who else spends a lot of money, Congress? So, you need to find the last nickel in your budget.
There you have it Mr. Speaker! If you want to reduce the budget deficit, that is a framework for fairness and honesty as opposed to the unfair and dishonest cuts you proposed.
Now, if you really want to do the job correctly and with meaningful analysis and objectivity, you can pass a clean debt increase and we can engage in real analysis and negotiation of the Nation’s revenue and spending.
I have said it before and I will say it again. i AM STRONGLY IN FAVOR OF FIXING OUR ANNUAL BUDGET DEFICIT AS LONG AS EVERY POTENTIAL NICKEL OF REVENUE AND EXPENSE IS TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
I would hope when you show up on Friday, you have more to discuss than another Republican attack on the middle class, the poor, and it appears indirectly on our veterans.
