Platinum Nugget
At various points, the concept has been raised about minting a Trillion-Dollar Coin, depositing it in the Federal Reserve, and using its Seigniorage for meeting the requirements of section 4 the 14th Amendment.
Here is a brief summary: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trillion-dollar_coin
And that references this: mintthecoin.org
An important key to this concept is that 31 U.S. Code § 5112(k) provides for this:
(k) The Secretary may mint and issue platinum bullion coins and proof platinum coins in accordance with such specifications, designs, varieties, quantities, denominations, and inscriptions as the Secretary, in the Secretary’s discretion, may prescribe from time to time.
Here are my suggestions for variations on this concept:
For flexibility, mint proof platinum coins with the denomination of $10 Billion so that the number of them can be adjusted as needed.
On one side of the coin, use gold plating, or If that is not permitted within the wider scope of the law and its defining terms, perhaps it can just be a gold-colored wrapping (for presentation purposes) that can be peeled off.
On the gold side, put a likeness of Donald Trump. (Trump does seem to like gold.)
On the platinum side, put a likeness of … oh you are probably already ahead of me … Donald Trump as well.
In addition, potentially at a later date, mint additional proof platinum coins with the same appearance but with a size and weight such that it is feasible to sell to the public with a denomination that is more affordable. Perhaps a denomination of $1000 is too low to cover costs, but perhaps $2000 is feasible?
Basically, I think Republicans would be adverse to complaining too much about the minting of coins with Donald Trump on them.
Thoughts and comments, anyone?
Oh, and please do share if you have found similar proposals anywhere.
