New Jersey news first. We all know about “Florida Man”, but New Jersey has some odd little goings-on too. Lucky for these residents of Old Bridge Township that they’re as far southeast as they are; if this happened in my town, this would be a story in which bears figured prominently. [2:09]
It’s not any similarity between New Jersey and Mars that makes this story a natural segue. It’s the strewing of stuff on the ground, in this case, backup sample tubes, in case the planned future handoff to another space robot goes south. [2:09]
This man, Sarper Duman, lives in Istanbul. He is a pianist and composer, but also, he rescues cats. (A longer video about him is here. And he’s easy to find on social media.) This particular cat appears in many of his videos, because it likes to sit in his lap when he plays the keyboard and lean on the middle of the keyboard. It’s impressive that he manages to play something that does not require any under-cat keys. [1:19]
This is kind of important, not that it will make any difference to people who insist sex is binary. But for anyone at all receptive, it’s an excellent roundup of all the ways someone’s sex can spread out along a rather complex spectrum and not be binary at freakin’ all. The video is a few years old, which is why Hank is talking like, now that we know this, people will surely understand and become more accepting of trans and non-binary folk. Well, he was right about some of us. [13:39]
Alexandra Macdonald, first soloist of the National Ballet of Canada, explains how to pirouette, so get your toe shoes ready. [1:59]
Judi Oyama is a skateboarder from Santa Cruz who is still skating at 63. (Video is from just a couple of months ago.) The video probably runs a little long for anyone who is not deeply interested in the minutia of this sport, but it is definitely worth seeing her still doing what she still does. [12:03]
I was assembling this before dinner, so I was hungry and thought it needed some food. John Kanell’s fish tacos look pretty good! [10:37]
