The Social Troglodytes

Yesterday I skipped my trip to the barber deciding grow my thinning hair long: Again.

This morning I shaved. but only so that my beard will return.

I might be grey, but I’m not dead, and I’m no Social Troglodyte.

It’s time for one generation to meet another, a beat poet to meet a rapper, so this my attempt at performance poetry. In truth, we’re back in the fifties man. The beatniks: Too I can’t hear you snap your fingers if you like it.

I Ain’t no Social Troglodyte

It’s not me, I’m not a Social Troglodyte

I stood up

I marched for peace

All means All

I watched my sisters fall

I watched my brothers fall

I saw my generation stand so tall

Because All means all

In Vietnam the bullets were not racist

Bullets don’t care if one is gay or straight

My Generation stood tall

Flowers are better than bullets

You’ll have to pry those flowers out of my cold dead hands

It’s time again for my generation to stand tall

Because All means All

No my Generation are not Social Troglodytes

And while we’ve paid our dues getting through

We still got some love to give

This is my generation baby

I’m glad I didn’t die before I got old

We mourned for Emmitt Till

We brought the troops home

We believed in Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and voted for Harvey Milk and so many more

We sat in Peace

We stood at Blanket Hill

Four dead in Ohio brought down the President,

Just ask Haldeman

Yeah, my generation stood tall

And we know all means all

Gay, Straight, Trans, who cares

We hold these truths to be self-evident

That all people are entitled to the pursuit of love, life, happiness

My Generation ain’t no social troglodytes

To my brothers I must ask

To my sisters I must hear you

Do you believe in one and other

Is it OK to love one another

Talkin about my generation

We stood tall

Because ALL in means All

Many have lost their way

Filled with hate and rage

They've taken the stage

My generation must again stand tall

Because All means all

And we ain’t no Social Troglodytes

Stop, what’s that sound

Everybody look what’s going down

Yeh, it’s Donald Trump and MAGA

We gonna bring em down

End this social troglodyte era

My generation standing tall

Because All means All
