This is personal.

Because of a back compression fracture and other things (don’t ask) I’ve been in the hospital and rehab for about six weeks and counting. I am writing diaries on my phone on my back, but I should be out soon.

90% of the people taking care of me are from the Philippines, the Caribbean, South America and other places.

So don’t tell me I’m a coastal elitist looking down on Republicans. Their xenophobia is threatening lives and livelihoods. If vital immigrants are shut out people will die.

And that’s just one way their votes threaten us — there’s climate, reproductive rights, guns, and LGBQT survival.

So I don’t “look down” on you. I want you to stop threatening our lives with your votes.

Young people get this. Support groups like The Civics Center, who are working hard to register GenZ voters.
