Hi beer fans, happy Friday!
-—
It was a happy Friday in Britain for sure; they have a long holiday weekend to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, and are expected to raise many a glass. Per MSN
Local boozers expect to pour 62 million pints over the bank holiday, with extended hours for the historic event anticipated to bring in more than £120,000,000, according to new figures from the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA). Earlier in March, the government announced a two-hour extension to pub opening times, meaning drinking venues will be open until 1am between May 5 and 7.
Various brewers and distillers have created commemorative “Coronation” products (two different Coronation Gins) but the most interesting story is the 86-year old Coronation Ale brewed for the King who was never crowned. It was brewed in 1937 but Edward VIII abdicated before his coronation and
Greene King brewery apparently forgot all about it. Almost unbelievably it remained unnoticed in an ignored storeroom until 2011. Then the brewery decided not to sell it until the next coronation, so it sat for 12 more years.
It’s 12% ABV, what I’d call a barleywine, so if the cork is still OK it’s probably worth trying.

I’ve got Hazy Little Thing. If I look carefully through the fridge there is probably other beer. What are you drinking? Anyone brewing?
