Tucker Carlson In Talks With Donald Trump To Host Alternative GOP Debate In Big Snub To Fox News. The primary leverage would come from Trump’s announced refusal to participate in any debates. A debate organized by Tucker Carlson might be the only one where Trump would deign to appear in order to drive ratings. Will GOP primary voters remember that Trump pulled a debate boycott in 2016, only to lose to Ted Cruz in Iowa.
Trump on Tuesday questioned why he would subject himself in a debate to “hostile NETWORKS” and “TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors.” The former president reiterated his skepticism of the Republican primary debates Wednesday, referencing his large leads in multiple polls. “I’m leading by 40 points,” Trump told New-York based WABC in an interview. “People don’t debate when they have these massive leads.” But a move like that could hold mixed results for Trump in important early voting states. Republican voters who plan to cast ballots in the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire told USA TODAY how Trump skipping the debates could affect their perception of him. www.msn.com/… Trump pulled a similar tactic in 2016, when he refused to participate in the last Iowa debate before the state’s caucuses because Megyn Kelly ― who had asked Trump about his misogynistic attacks on women at the first debate months earlier ― was to be a moderator.
