A “story” from Fox News has just been spread by msn.com with the headline:
Karine Jean-Pierre roasted for claiming illegal immigration is down 90%: 'These people think we're stupid'
It starts with the assertion:
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was eviscerated by Twitter users after declaring that illegal immigration was down by 90% since implementing President Biden’s immigration policies.
It then quoted several offensive social media posts accusing KJP of lying, being “dumb” and so on.
As shown here last week, the surge in violence across the USA since 2015 is attributable to Fox News deliberately spreading blatant falsehoods in order to rile up folks who do not have the comprehension or clear thinking skills to see they are being lied to.
This is a good example of that.
The Fox/msn “story” quotes White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying:
In the meantime, he has tools that he's used to make sure we do this. We actually deal with the immigration system in a humane way, in a way that actually deals with what we're seeing at the border. And that's why you've seen the parolee program be so successful. When it comes to illegal immigration, you've seen it come down by more than 90%. And that's because of this, the actions that this president has taken.
What everyone in the press corps understood was that “he” in the first sentence referred to President Biden. They also knew the phrase “seen it come down by more than 90%” referred to illegal immigration from the four Latin American countries targeted by the parolee program.
KJP was NOT claiming that ALL illegal immigration had been cut by 90 per cent. No-one in the room thought she did. The clue to this is that no-one queried her answer. Certainly, had she asserted that all illegal immigration had tumbled to just ten per cent of what it once was, there would have been consternation and clamour.
There wasn’t because she and they had discussed this topic many times previously.
In a press conference on 6 March, KJP said:
We are protecting our border in a secure way, which is why he’s taken actions — whether it’s the parolee program, whether it’s putting 24,000 federal agents on the ground — and making sure that we’re doing this in a safe and humane way.
She followed that on 7 March with:
When you think about what we were able to do, how we expanded that parolee program for Nicaragua, Cubans and Venezuelans and also Haitians, it was a way to provide an opportunity to do that.
She added later:
I just talked about migration from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti. That is down by 90 — more than 95 percent since we expanded the parole program. That was just — parolee program — which was just a month or two ago.
Then, on 30 March, KJP said:
If you think about the parolee program, you think about Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Cuba, it’s down by more than 97 percent. And it’s down by 70 percent for El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
On 18 April, KJP said:
And as you know — and we’ve talked about this — we’re expanding legal pathways like the parolee program for migrants from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Cuba. And we have actually seen the numbers come down by more than 90 per cent.
It is the journalists’ job to understand what the White House is saying and convey that to their audience. Except, of course, at Fox News. Their employees are paid to fabricate, falsify and deceive, in order to push the MAGA Republican agenda and enhance the revenue and control of its owners. The sooner they are boycotted out of existence, the better.
