A little more than a week ago, I published an essay on the demise of a website known as “The Brick Testament.” At the time, I hoped that the website would be revived. Failing that, I wondered if I should buy the book version, The Brick Bible. Since then, I have found that there are no good alternatives.

First of all, there is a website called “The Brick Bible.” I am unable to review this website properly because the images move around. I get motion sickness easily, and those moving images give me that queasy feeling almost immediately.

Then there is The Brick Bible, supposedly a book version of “The Brick Testament.” I figured it would be a good substitute because he had also published The Brick Bible for Kids, from which I concluded the all the adult material would still be in the former. With that in mind, I ordered The Brick Bible.

Out of curiosity, I decided to investigate further, hoping to find out why the website was gone. I didn’t mind letting the author make some money by selling me the book, instead of allowing me to use the website for free, but even with the book at hand, I still would have preferred the website.

That’s when I got the bad news. First, I read that the author had purged The Brick Bible of all the suggestive material. That meant that there would be no depictions of sex between LEGO characters. Second, I read that The Brick Bible was also edited for space, so that not as much material would be in the book as was in the website. When I read that the entire section depicting The Book of Job had been eliminated, that did it. I canceled the order.

My guess is that the author took down the website not only to make people like me buy his book, but also to clean up the reputation he had acquired as a blaspheming atheist, figuring there was more money to be made promoting religion rather than satirizing it. “The Brick Testament” was a masterpiece, and he betrayed it for thirty pieces of silver.
