Tax revenues are less than earlier hoped in what now appears to be a fatiguing economy, Sec Yellen (may the angels guide and protect her) declared that the debt ceiling needs to be fixed sooner, not later, as earlier forecast. So now what...?

This is not a zero sum game. There is enough meat on the debt ceiilng bone for Grandpa Joe to cut a deal with spineless McCarthy and enough scraps for McCarthy to share among his henchmen. The WH probably already knows what they will have to give and the GOP Mob's leaders already know what they can get. So can we sound the "All Clear", can you now start unrolling Benjamins out from under your mattress?

Yeaaaano. When leeway and margins are tight, when tensions are high, when a dozen unexpected eruptions can arise, even a simple straight forward well planned negotiation with limited parameters can go awry.

Why would Grandpa Joe and Schumer/Pelosi not have put the debt ceiling monster away last year when they had majorities, although painfully skinny majorities, in both houses? Could it be that wily Grandpa Joe knew that McCarthy and his Cretins could not resist a target as fat as our 31 Trillion dollar debt? Impelled by their insatiable need to demonstrate their manhood and their insatiable hunger to hurt the Libs, the goppers would inevitably try to demonstrate their Republican fiscal rectitude by attacking the debt ceiling.

Add one more self inflicted wound to the Republican package of political masochism: guns, abortion, climate, corporate and rich peoples taxes and now threatening to destroy US credit and the economy. Spineless Kevin might as well threaten Grandpa Joe: "If you don’t give me what I want I wont stop hurting myself". Maybe it will work out once again and the goppers will again exit covered in their own excrement, but this is a dangerous gambit and Sec Yellen will need to share some of her angelic host with Grandpa Joe to pull this off without a catastrophe.
