Viet Nam Tour

Last week I mentioned here that we had booked a Viet Nam tour for later this year. We had been considering a Viking river cruse for a while, but took no action. We saw a Netflix movie, A Tourist’s Guide to Love, with scenes and scenery from Viet Nam. The dialog was so bad I only lasted the first 10 minutes, but memories of our previous trip to Viet Nam were triggered. We agreed….that trip had been our favorite, so why not repeat it? We immediately booked the 20 day trip with Overseas Adventure Travel, Inside Viet Nam.

This is the exact same trip we took in 2006. The overview on the website was familiar, but when we sat down and read the detailed itinerary (took an hour) we saw that there are enough differences to keep our interest. Perhaps the biggest one is that we will be on a sailboat overnight, including our meals, in Halong Bay. I expect this to be my trip highlight. We had spent some time there on the 2006 trip, but only a daytime visit on a small boat.

There are many bus and air trips during the tour, but since “Adventure” is the middle name of the company, there will be lots of walks for exploration. I’m a little compromised as to walking, so I may pass on some of the activities. The food there is excellent, but the French restaurants were the best. I plan to ask the tour guide “Where’s the nearest great French restaurant?” and wait for the rest of the tour there (if necessary).

After seeing some of the movie “A tourist’s guide” I googled it to see if it was a put-on, considering the dialog and predictability. Oh, no, I was way off. Everybody loved it and many of the comments were about plans for a Viet Nam trip. I guess we got our reservations just under the wire.
