The Road Ahead?

The most significant new change worth noting this week in the still ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is that the United Kingdom made a major revision upward in both their cumulative death toll (~12, 000) and total confirmed cases (~80,000); but since the revised data supposedly shows no new deaths over the last six weeks, this is causing some confusion as to what the most recent trend in the global bi-weekly death toll actually is.

Asia continues to be of the most concern in terms of new cases, with South Korea apparently surpassing both the US and Japan in that metric for the first time in nearly a year, and Vietnam now exhibiting the same sort of explosive growth as when it was first hammered by Omicron over a year ago. OTOH, there is some evidence that both India and Japan may be nearing a peak soon, so perhaps this latest wave will prove to be more of a ripple than a real cause for concern.
