SoCal poppies at Diamond Valley Lake, CA

The successive wave of atmospheric rivers that swept over California this past winter had a lot of aftereffects: some good (more stored water for the future) and bad (destruction and deaths.) But one spectacularly good aftereffect is the bonanza of wildflower growth all over the state.

I wrote a diary on the poppy explosion here a few weeks ago, but a trove of new photos from this CNN article called me back to the topic.

And it’s not just CA poppies in the news:
