Patriotic insurrectionist and Zip Tie Guy Erik Munchel.

I had wondered what was going on with Erick Muchel, also known as “Zip Tie Guy,” from his infamous picture during the Jan 6th insurrection. He along with his 59 year old mother were convicted today after a stipulated trial. And he and his mother are fine upstanding people. /s.

The man who was seen leaping over a banister in the Senate Gallery and was later dubbed “Zip Tie Guy” — due to him gripping a handful of the plastic restraints at the time — has been convicted of felonies and misdemeanors for breaching the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. His mother, charged in the same case, was also convicted. Eric Gavelek Munchel, 32, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lisa Marie Eisenhart, 59, of Woodstock, Georgia, were found guilty Tuesday in a stipulated trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth. In a stipulated trial, the defendant and prosecutors agree to a set of facts that form the basis of the judge’s ultimate decision; in this case, Lamberth found that the facts supported convictions for both mother and son of conspiracy to commit obstruction and obstruction of an official proceeding, both felonies that carry a maximum 20 years behind bars. They were also convicted of trespassing and disorderly conduct misdemeanors. Munchel was additionally convicted of disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, a felony with a potential 10-year prison sentence, and unauthorized possession of a deadly or dangerous weapon on Capitol grounds, a five-year felony.

Nice Family Mugshot.

Yeah, Munchel is from Tennessee. Big shock there. I did remember that about him because my Sister lives in Tennessee and is not far from Nashville.

Anyway, it appears that both Muncel and Eisenhart were enthusiastic about joining the rampaging mob attacking the Capitol Building. Both saw the cops were fighting for their lives and tear gassing the insurrectionists, but both pushed their way into the building. Both mother and son were wearing tactical vests, but Munchel also had a taser along with those zip ties. And Munchel was recording what he was doing with his cell phone tucked into the front of his vest.

And yes, both were proud of what they had done that day.

I’m glad they were convicted, but how long will either be in prison? It sounds like both should get a lot of years, but no one has ever gotten the maximum sentence. The government will want a long sentence, while the defense will want them to get medals, and the judge will end up splitting the difference, again.

One overall good thing with any of these assholes having prison time is that it seems to have put a bit of a chill into other would be insurrectionists. Remember how Trump asked his followers to rise up after his indictment in NY? Nothing happened. One reason why people didn’t riot in the streets is that the dumbass “foot soldiers” realize that they may spend time in jail.

I’d feel a whole lot better when maybe a general or two in the insurrection is indicted, if ever.
