NY woman shot dead after friends turn down the wrong driveway. [1]

Another gun violence tragedy this past Saturday night, this time from upstate NY. Like the Ralph Yarl story from Kansas, City where the young man mistakenly knocked on the wrong door only to be shot, this one was also fueled by paranoia, machismo, and someone waiting for the lamest of excuses to present itself to justify the purchase of the weapon and ammo. Unfortunately, the victim did not survive. In this particular incident, it was a car with a group of young ladies looking for their friend’s house. They mistakenly turned down the wrong driveway. Once they realized they were at the wrong address, they tried turning around to leave. As they were doing so, the homeowner, a 65-year old male stepped out on to his front porch and fired two shots at the vehicle. One bullet struck a 20-year old woman in the car, fatally wounding her. Her name was Kaylin Gillis. Calls to emergency services failed as cellphone service was poor due to the rural location. The young women drove 6 miles to the nearest town where they were able to get through to EMS, where they located the vehicle. Efforts to save Kaylin were unsucessful.

A standoff with police later followed at the house where the shooting took place, and the suspect is now under arrest and in police custody.

We’re in such deep sh!t as a country with these gun problems, I don’t even know where to begin. Nowhere is safe. Simple mistakes are deadly. There’s no room for error. How did it get this bad?
