“It’s not time for you to eat,” I said.
His full attention was on me, eyes wide open.
“You don’t seem mad.”
He did not reply, simply stared.
“Is there something on my face?” I wondered, rubbing my face.
“You could just tell me,” I offered.
He lifted his paw to his face and gave it a slow lick, his eyes not leaving mine.
“Are you threatening me?”
I picked up my phone, determined to ignore him. If he didn’t want a cuddle, and it wasn’t time to feed him, he could just wait for whatever it was he wanted.
“I’m not paying any attention to you,” I said, not looking up from my phone.
Silence was his only reply.
“I bet you’ve found something more interesting to do than stare at me,” I opined.
My eyes went to him and then back to my phone.
He was still staring.
“To heck with you and your laser eyes,” I said, getting up to go to the bathroom.
I heard the sound of his paws hitting the hardwood as he followed me. It wasn’t long after I sat down to do my business that he pushed the door open and sat to watch.
“Really?” I asked. I reached over and gently pushed the door closed, forcing him to move.
Before the door could fully close, he pushed it open again.
“Ridiculous,” I said.
We walked together back to living room together. Before sitting, I reached down to pet him. He ducked it.
“Rude,” I said.
He jumped on the couch next to me and sat facing me. I reached over to pet him.
He nipped me.
“Fine,” I sighed.
“You can’t sit this close to me and not let me pet you,” I said.
His tail hit the couch cushion with a loud thump.
“Are you going to bite me if I try again?”
Thump, thump.
I picked up my phone again. “It’s very mean to tempt me with that soft fur only to attack.”
I considered shoving him off the couch and decided against it. “You’re in a mood,” I said.
He twisted to lick the base of his tail then turned back to face me. “No mood,” he told me. “Just cat.”
I lifted my hand to pet him and then lowered it again, not wanting a bite. “Sometimes you are such a cat.”
Happy Caturday, Peeps! Sometimes Freddie wants to be in the room with us, but doesn’t want to be touched or talked to or looked at.
