Reading Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s dictate, and believe me, this guy thinks he is powerful, against the trans community is like reading something out of a dark chapter of history. Only this dark chapter of history is yesterday.

Besides banning the care for minors, even with parental consent, Missouri, as it is prone to do, has one-upped everyone else when it comes to its state wide war against the trans community.

It is coming after adults.

Bailey’s “Emergency resolution” does the following, and excuse me if I did not know the Missouri AG had the power to rule the state:

Prohibiting gender transition interventions when the provider fails to, ensure that the patient has received a full psychological or psychiatric assessment, consisting of not fewer than 15 separate, hourly sessions (at least 10 of which must be with the same therapist) over the course of not fewer than 18 months to explore the developmental influences on the patient’s current gender identity and to determine, among other things, whether the person has any mental health comorbidities ensure that any existing mental health comorbidities of the patient have been treated and resolved ensure that, for at least the 3 most recent consecutive years, the patient has exhibited a medically documented, long-lasting, persistent and intense pattern of gender dysphoria with respect to a patient who is a minor, ensure that the patient has received a comprehensive screening (at least annually) for social media addiction or compulsion and has not, for at least the six months prior to beginning any intervention, suffered from social media addiction or compulsion maintain data about adverse effects in a form that can be accessed readily for systematic study adopt and follow a procedure to track all adverse effects that arise from any course of covered gender transition intervention for all patients beginning the first day of intervention and continuing for a period of not fewer than 15 years obtain and keep on file informed written consent ensure that the patient has received a comprehensive screening to determine whether the patient has autism ensure (at least annually) that the patient is not experiencing social contagion with respect to the patient’s gender identity

Social contagion is a quite incendiary term, as if somehow, the trans community, in his mind, is a disease that spreads. I am literally, and without any exaggeration, writing this with nausea in my stomach at roughly 3 a.m. Arizona time.

Missouri is my birth state. Texas is where I was largely raised. And now, upon finishing this work, I have to explain to my wife that aside from specific family obligations, I have no intent to be going east of New Mexico unless by air, to an enlightened state, for the foreseeable future.

We will not face a prospect of driving through checkpoints looking for period apps. We will not patronize or even pass through states that embrace the dehumanization of my fellow human beings, and in most cases, Americans.

We will not step foot in, up to and including sitting on the tarmac on a layover, any one of these places.

This breaks my heart. And I do realize there exist many allies in these borders. To those of you that believe in human decency that have built lives in these places, I understand. The ground shifted quickly. To the greatest extent possible I will support your endeavors-(Etsy, Amazon store, travel agencies, food shipping, and more) and I will do everything I can to help you bring political reform to your home.

I will never abandon you. I will never turn my back.

But until the day dawns in these places where all persons are safe to live according to their own identity, I am not able to in good conscience more broadly than the mentioned exceptions, support the tax base. I am sorry.

I have a firm rule against the dehumanization of people. It is a red line against what my wife calls the “Red Wall” and no, I did not think they would go this far.

This stand is borne of a defining principle of who I am.

In the coming days I will write a primer on relocating to Arizona and the west coast, where oppressed classes are protected by the states. We dodged a lunatic in Arizona, but Katie Hobbs defends humanity, so I am glad to call it home now.

Phoenix, Arizona – Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, applauds Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs for vetoing SB 1005, which left schools open to the threat of litigation for providing supportive and affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ students. Gov. Katie Hobbs’ victory in November makes this the first legislative session in nearly a decade where the governor is expected to veto discriminatory anti-LGBTQ+ bills. As a candidate, Gov. Hobbs committed to support transgender Arizonans, and her chief of staff signaled that bills attacking LGBTQ+ children would be “dead on arrival.”

In a once unthinkable turn of events, the place I intend to plant roots in is Arizona, where 77 percent of us support inclusive policy.

In the past two months I have been subjected to personal threats, to the state of Florida advancing a bill that would tell journalists like me what can be written about their political office holders, and been witness to a law subjugating pregnant teens in Idaho, along with that state likely to be allowing rapists to sue their victims.

They have declared war on minorities, women, teens, the trans community , renters, immigrants, and libraries and countless other targets.

They are not leaving me many options.

For the time being unless I leave the country, it surely looks like I will only need to be driving in the Western Zone of the States of America.

They, not me, left United behind, a long time ago.
