Flowers growing in springtime.

Hello and welcome to my very first good news diary! You have read my comments for years but I now find myself in the cockpit. Since it is my first time, be gentle with me.

What a week, huh? Damn, so much good stuff happened, you don’t even need the Good News Roundup to feel good. But personally I never get tired of reading about all the good things and all the winning, and I’m sure you don’t as well. Trump arrested! Supreme Court victory in Wisconsin! Putin loses Finland to NATO. No matter how you slice it, it was a good week for the good guys.

But before we get to the good stuff, a word about Star Wars. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I'm old enough to have seen the OG Star Wars in theaters in 1977. One of the things I love about Star Wars is that the very core of everything it's just a story about good vs evil. And what Star Wars teaches us is that evil never really goes away. You blow up one Death Star, they build another. You blow that one up and kill The Emperor, they regroup and rebrand as The First Order. Point is, these fuckers never go away. But the Rebellion never quits either. The bad guys win some battles now and then but in the end, the Rebellion always wins. So we have to keep fighting. It’s exhausting, I know, but they don’t ever quit, so neither can we. And we don’t want to be old man Luke Skywalker, isolating himself on a remote planet just waiting to die while the Resistance continues to fight for the soul of the galaxy without his help. We want to be young Luke, ready to jump in his X-Wing and join the fight with Leia, Han, and Chewy. So let’s see what fights we’re winning today, shall we?

Batch of Postcards To Voters going to Wisconsin Democrats in support of Judge Janet Protasiewicz for Wisconsin Supreme Court. Heart postcard design by fellow Kosack pr0gressivist. A Democratic victory in the race to fill a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court could have major ramifications for the state and for the whole country after Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz triumphed on Tuesday. Protasiewicz is a liberal who was supported by Democrats in the race, which was technically nonpartisan. She defeated Republican-backed Daniel Kelly, a former member of the state's supreme court. That victory could have a profound effect on state as well as national politics. Protasiewicz's addition to the court will now give it an effective 4-3 liberal majority. This could open the way to challenges to electoral maps for the U.S. House of Representatives, which currently favor Republicans.

And plans are already under way to do just that. Trust me, WI Dems ain’t wasting a second to get those districts redrawn. With fair districts, WI could be the next MI.

Donald Trump’s appearance in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday marked a historic moment in American history — the first time a former or sitting U.S. president has been indicted on criminal charges. But Trump’s legal peril is far from over. Among those closely watching the proceedings were state and local officials in Georgia, where Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) is expected to announce in coming weeks whether she will file charges in connection to efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results.

I wonder if Trump is found guilty in multiple courts in this country, where does he get to rot in jail for the rest of his life? Who gets the bragging rights?

Like a boxer who has never had an adequate sparring partner, DeSantis seems utterly unprepared for the flurry of insults from Trump. DeSantis tried ignoring him and then tried halfheartedly shoving back. But Trump, an aggressive potential opponent with a feral instinct for weakness, has consistently outplayed DeSantis. Like most Republicans, DeSantis found himself criticizing Bragg and ignoring Trump’s outrageous threats of violence. During his governorship, DeSantis’s fights have been against politically weaker people: schoolchildren, LGBTQ youths, schoolteachers, African American historians and ex-prisoners. Even his tussle with Disney was against a corporation that couldn’t very well pick up and leave the state. One might say DeSantis is out of practice, but in fact he has never had to face off against someone of equal or greater political heft. And now, up against a bigger bully, he looks overwhelmed.

That’s it everyone! Hope you enjoyed it. Have a great Saturday.
