Exactly one week after three children and three adult staff members were killed on March 27 at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, Ron DeSantis quietly signs a “Kill more Kids Bill” with the support of the NRA and Florida’s Republican controlled legislature.
The legislation allows anyone to carry a concealed gun without a permit, without training, and without a background check, making it easier for another school shooting like the deadliest mass shooting at a high school in U.S. history that happened in Parkland, Florida in 2018.
Twenty-six states now allow concealed carry without a permit. Thirty-four (to thirty-six) states are “open carry”, allowing the carrying of visible guns without a permit or license but requiring a permit to carry concealed guns.
DeSantis’s signing of the “Kill more Kids Bill” occurred despite the fact that 77% of Floridians don’t support allowing people to carry a weapon without a permit, including 62% of Republicans. Of course, there are still some people who are upset that the legislation doesn’t go far enough because it doesn’t allow “open carry”.
