Anticipated images of what is yet to be.
The NY Times has an editorial discussing the import of Donald Trump finally facing criminal charges after decades of acting as though laws were for other people. It’s not a bad piece of writing, but it fails to take in the bigger picture.
All this back-patting, taking that Trump will finally face justice is proof that our institutions work, is overly optimistic.
Trump’s corrupt Attorney General Bill Barr effectively sabotaged the Meuller Report, limiting its scope and deliberately misconstruing its findings.
Trump was impeached twice with overwhelming evidence of his guilt. Because Republicans put party over country, he dodged the consequences of his actions.
January 6 was not all Trump’s doing; he had plenty of unindicted co-conspirators in Congress on that day. Some of them are still there. Others have joined them. Under the 14th Amendment they should not be allowed to hold office.
They are currently doing their best to distort and deny the findings of the January 6 committee. They have driven out party members who put their duty to the constitution ahead of loyalty to Trump.
Even now the GOP is actively colluding with Trump to try to derail the multiple criminal proceedings against him, both at the Federal and State levels.
We have a sitting Supreme Court judge who refuses to recuse himself, despite his wife’s active participation in the Big Lie and other efforts to overturn the election. The Court has shown itself to be irretrievably politicized as it is.
A corporate disinformation operation masquerading as a legitimate news operation is currently being sued for knowingly spreading lies about the 2020 election.
Trump facing criminal charges is nothing more than a good start on a bigger problem.
