The Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research group, defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter.
2023 is 89 days old. 89 days since January 1, 2023. In that time, based on the above definition, we have had 129 mass shootings in this country this year. 129 in just 89 days.
What the actual fuck. Why? What possesses a person to go out and shoot people? Why does somebody shoot innocent children? And more importantly, what can we do to prevent this shit?
Three adults around 60 years old...and three 9 year old kids were killed in Nashville by a crazy person. 9 years old! I don't have answers, I guess I'm not that smart. But something has to be done. I fear for my grandkids, I fear for your kids and grandkids, and I fear for anyone who goes to Walmart or the grocery store.
I don’t think punishing responsible gun owners is the answer. I know plenty of folks who hunt and target shoot who handle their firearms as they should. My son in law was a marksman in the US military. He has 4 kids. My grandkids. I’m not worried about him.
Ok, I’ll give it a try. Let’s start by reinstating the Brady Bill. It should have never been allowed to sunset. Let’s implement Red Flag laws to identify people who should not own a gun. And let’s vote out assholes like Tennessee Republican Representative Tim Burchett who said yesterday that “we’re not going to fix this.” And “we need a christian revival.”
This abomination occured IN HIS STATE!
