Ukraine Weather Forecast: Warm and Mostly Dry This Week [1]

After a relatively warm winter with no extended deep freeze in Ukraine, the weather forecast over the next seven days indicates warmer-than-average temperatures, well above freezing, and only light rain in the war zone of Eastern Ukraine. These charts are from the U.S. GFS model; a quick look at the European Medium Range Forecast Model shows a similar pattern. The top chart is temperature anomaly in degrees Celsius — reddish colors indicate above average — for Thursday, March 24.

The chart below shows how the high temperatures expected next Saturday — well into the teens in degrees C across the war zone.

Here’s the precipitation forecasts for the next 8 days — just light precipitation, less than 5-10 millimeters it looks like in Eastern Ukraine over that whole period.

Of course, weekly weather forecasts are subject to uncertainty, and I have no knowledge of whether this predicted week of relatively warmer and drier weather would help Ukraine beat back the Russian invasion. But I hope it does...
