Beaver Creek

It was after Larry's funeral that I last crossed over Beaver Creek. I'd found a pack of cigars in his bedroom, five left out of six. There were five of us guys, my oldest brother and his son, me, and our two younger brothers. My old fire pit was there, ringed with stones. I had what I needed to get a fire going -- dry newspaper and sticks around to add for kindling. We had a good fire going in a few minutes. I'd said we should light the cigars off a glowing branch end, so we did. It was early April, wet and cold. Mostly there, was silence.
